This was the first book or more to say a novel, I read in my life. when I read other reviews about this book and also enquired with my friends, they were not very happy about this book but when I read this book I felt the same language which we are used to from Chetan's books, yes it is nowhere near to his works like "Five Point someone" or "2 States" but it isn t bad either, the way he gives background to each character and ties up all the loose ends together is what I like in this book as well, it also touches a few sensitive aspects of Gujarat but also explains how they impact business and people. you will be amazed to know i Completed it in 7 days. I couldn t control my excitement of what will happen next after reading each chapter. Some good points to understand especially Indian Politics and the most its dark side "political of religion and caste". Well of all I like trios book and uhh... What can I say more read it and have some time of excitement of what.Surely not only sex. much about emotions. A good piece by Chetan Bhagat. ....... --Vicky on 27 May 2015

Chetan Bhagat is the author of four blockbuster novels, Five Point Someone (2004), One Night @ the Call Center (2005) The 3 Mistakes of life (2008) & 2 States (2009). All four books have remained bestsellers since their release and have inspired major Bollywood films. Chetan also writes op-ed columns for leading English and Hindi newspapers, focusing on youth and national development based issues. Hey people! this is for sure a third blockbuster from chetan bhagat......he is making india read like never before...an apt title for a writer like him.the book revolves around three friends of whom govind alone is ambitious, ish is passionate about cricket and omi who gives in to his friends all the time.Ali is an important part of the novel.This book talks about how religions influence politics and what outcomes turn up. i had tears in my eyes by the end. surely this was emotional and at the same time cheesy....just read it...I'm sure you'll love it

A word of caution: that you might find minor spoilers. The 3 mistakes of my life gives a nice perspective of life in Gujarat. The characters are three ordinary men who start a business venture and strive to make it big. They are the owners of a sports goods store. They have their own fears and philosophies in life. Omi fears he will end up being the priest of the temple. Ish fears he will never be able to live his dreams of being a cricketer through Ali. Vidya fears she will end up as one of those doctors who didn't want to be a doctor. Govind appears focused and ambitious though. The events happen amidst the Bhuj earthquake and the Godhra riots.
Chetan Bhagat's stories always involve a lot of drama at the end, and this one was no different. A fight scene at the end lasts for pages. Perhaps it is his style of writing. However this book lacks a background/characters from IITs and IIMs. Overall, it is nothing great, but definitely worth a read.

To explain exactly what honest academic work is---and to prevent plagiarism, the stealing of the words of others and insertion of them into one's own work, pretending that one is the actual author---the University of Chicago's brilliant Professor Charles H. Lipson has come to the rescue. A highly-acclaimed and deeply respected author, scholar and much-beloved professor, Dr. Lipson writes with admirable clarity and provides vivid and memorable examples of what not to do.
In no way pedantic, Professor Lipson shows how integrity in one's academic writings will be a major advantage to any student, and how failure to do work with integrity and honesty can only lead to a label of "dishonest" or "plagiarist" which will stay with the student for decades to come, invariably for the rest of his or her life. People do not forget dishonesty. It is a permanent wound that never heals.
It may seem self-evident that no one should appropriate the work of others as their own or to cheat in other ways on term papers. Alas, it is not self-evident and, indeed, many Ivy League universities have retained proven plagiarists on their faculties.
The United States cannot and will not maintain its leadership in the world if its college students cannot do honest work and maintain their integrity even as they compete for high grades, and ultimately scholarships and jobs with their fellow students. Professor Lipson carefully explains why doing dishonest work in college can tarnish an entire lifetime. Excellent Resource for Academics

This an excellent short text for any new college student, or even high school student.  I have been recommending it to my community college students for many years, since I first read the prior edition about 10 years ago.  I even began including it in my syllabus, as a strongly recommended reading.  It offers easy to understand jargon on what plagiarism is, and also exposes the new student to the various different forms of academic writing styles that may be encountered during their college studies.  Also, an excellent resource for tutors or parents who aid in the academic work, or high school students who want to get an early edge on future academic needs.  It is especially useful for the community college level, as it is easy to understand, however I still refer to it after many years in graduate school and teaching at the community college level.

I GOT THE JOB

I was apprehensive at first buying a book to prepare me for a police oral board but the book helped me so much. I did a bit more research online, reading articles and asking questions of former and current police officers. I don't know what the underlying reason is for me getting offered the job, but the Chief just called like 10 minutes ago and I got the job. It was my first and only police application. So all I can say is, the book helped because I'm not from a military background or anything like that, but I beat out over 30 other applicants.

Great Prep for Both Local and Federal LE Oral Boards

While this book was intended for Police oral boards, I highly recommend getting this book if you have a Special Agent/Criminal Investigator (1811) or any other Federal LE oral board coming up if you have never been through one before. It is a quick read (1-2 hours), but gives the foundation you need to get some of the pass/fail law enforcement-based questions that frequently blindside candidates.

Read this at the very beginning of your prep, then again a time or two before the oral board. This should get you at least 30% prepared; the rest is knowing the department, position, your qualifications, and other normal interview stuff which the book touches on as well. Being prepared for the questions will help you save enough time to be able to sell yourself to the board before your time is up.

I purchased this book four years ago while still in the police academy. After graduation, I extensively studied the materials inside this book and was able to land a job with a very desirable agency. The questions they asked me during the oral board interview had all been covered in this book, so I felt prepared and delivered excellent responses.

About the Author
Jerry V. Diller has been teaching for over 30 years at all levels of higher education. He has been on the faculty of at The Wright Institute, University of California at Berkeley, University of Oregon, and Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. In his private practice he has been a partner in Multicultural Associates, a consulting and training organization focusing on issues of cultural diversity and social justice.

Uber liberal and super racist against whites

Nutshell: All white people are hateful racists, but generalizing is wrong.

I'd only ever heard of such liberal thinking, didn't think it actually existed. The author was so blatantly anti-white, I thought he was gonna wrap up at the end with some ironic twist where he apologizes for it and makes the point that racism can go in any direction. Nope. White people are still evil. Other disturbing concepts in the book: society is responsible for the bad behavior of individuals (in contrast to personal responsibility), children whose parents are leaders in the home suffer from adultism (have you seen the little terrors spawned from homes where parents AREN'T the leaders?), and that there's no way white people can not be racist and any success they have is due to white privilege. I swear this guy wants to perpetuate racism and make it more of an issue than it is. What a slap in the face to civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. who worked so hard to overcome racism for this author to ignore their progress and act like it's still just as big of an issue. Then when I saw that the author lives in Berkeley, it all made sense...
