About the Author
Dewey M. Caron is a graduate of Cornell University and Emeritus Professor from the University of Delaware. He has received numerous awards and forms of recognition for his teaching and extension work during his career. Lawrence John Connor is a graduate of Michigan State University. With a background in university extension and commercial bee breeding, Connor owns and operates Wicwas Press, the major publisher of beekeeping books in North America. He is the author of four other books on bees and beekeeping: Increase Essentials, Bee Sex Essentials, Queen Rearing Essentials and Bee-sentials: A Field Guide with Robert G. Muir.

Stop now !! save yourself endless hours at the bookstore, tons of fustration and $$$ - All you need is this Book

I've never written a review on any product I've bought before because I tend to be a bit hard and critical on products. However with this product and my experience thus far with beekeeping I felt I should. I have ordered est. 7 books on the subject ($200.00) in the last 9 mos and found them all over priced and lacking in depth and knowledge. I was hopeful after reading the reviews on Honey Bee Biology but was still prepared to be disappointed and waste more money. To my great surprise I found the book amazingly well edited, easy to read and full of the education/knowledge that all the other books did not contain. The book could be priced for twice as much and still be worth it. This is my first year in the beekeeping hobby/business and I have abandoned/shelved all my other books and refer to this one only. Many thanks to all those that helped produce and bring this product to market. There is nothing negative I can say

The best book in my bee library!

Clear, concise and engagingly written, this excellent look at bees, bee biology/physiology and behaviour is richly illustrated and cleverly organized. I especially applaud the way in which the most recent research is presented, very readable and clear in its implications for the beekeeper. I was especially interested in the way the book explored foraging behaviours, and will use that information to plan my forage plantings next year (the country fields are so empty of bee forage now that you have to purpose-plant forage for them...). Meanwhile, all those of you city or country who want to give the bees a boost, plant up some spring flowering heather, some catmint (catmint, not catnip), some sunflowers and caryopteris (Bluebeard, very pretty). If we all put those in our gardens or on our balconies, it would really help build populations of all the pollinators! Great book, fascinating read.

These are vigorous years spent building a spiritual society in India and establishing centers around the world where people could contact the ancient, orthodox faith of India in their own cities. In this volume, Srila Prabhupada circles the globe repeatedly, speaking out on timely issues and defending his budding religious society against "brainwashing" charges in America and shady business practices in India.

Srila Prabhupada wanted to unite two worlds, the "lame man" of India and the "blind man" of America. "A blind man can carry a lame man," he said, "and together they can walk. Similarly, the combination of Indian spirituality and American technology can benefit the whole world." His principal means of accomplishing this feat was to publish his books – annotated translations of India's spiritual classics. Under his guidance, the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust was organized, and by 1977 it had produced and distributed more than sixty million volumes of Srila Prabhupada's writings.

A final tour of India in 1977 took Srila Prabhupada, eighty-one and in failing health, to the colossal Kumbha-mela religious festival, to Hrsikesha, and finally back to his beloved Vrindavana. The time for his passing had come, he said. As his anguished disciples flooded Vrindavana from all corners of the world, Srila Prabhupada presented them with the greatest challenge – and the greatest lesson – of their young spiritual lives.

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada

All glories to Srila Prabhupada and much gratitude to Satsvarupa Dasa Goswami for this wonderful contribution to his legacy. He was only with us a short while and yet he was instrumental in transforming the hearts of so many forever. These two books as a relatively inexpensive Kindle download are well worth it for anyone who wants to experience even after so much time testimony to words and events in the life of Krishna's pure devotee. My recommendation is to read both volumes and to see for yourself.

Admirable,-- an unexpected and surprisingly sensitive find.

Quite honestly I did not know about this book until I learned about it while reading NBC correspondent Don Teague's book Saved by Her Enemy: An Iraqi woman's journey from the heart of war to the heartland of America. In the former the author wrote about a young Iraqui woman turned translator he helped save from certain death while she was employed helping Americans in her native country. Between Two Worlds: Escape from Tyranny: Growing up in the Shadow of Saddamis a remarkable book written by an Iraqui woman herself. Unlike Teague's translator, who came from more humble beginnings, the author of this book was born into privilege, the daughter of Saddam Hussein's former personal pilot. You would not have expected to have such a woman end up championing the cause of many abused women. It took being raped by her husband of an arranged marriage to inspire the author to passionately start helping women like herself.

As the book jacket informs us the author, Zainab Salbi, is the founder and president of Women for Women International, "a nonprofit organization providing women survivors to move from crisis to stability and build peace one woman at a time." Salbi is a very intelligent and highly educated woman holding degrees from George Mason University and the London School of Economics. She wrote the book in conjunction with Laurie Becklund, "an award-winning Los Angeles journalist and author...A former LOS ANGELES TIMES reporter, she wrote the first story about Salbi in 1991, when Zainab was a young woman stranded in America due to the Gulf War." It is at that time the author had just left her abusive husband and found herself unable to return to her native country.

The book begins with Salbi writing about her growing up in Iraq where her family was placed in the uneviable position of having to (more or less forcibly)socialize with Saddam Hussein. The author vividly describes her impressions of the dictator and her knowledge of the fear he instilled in all those around him. Salbi's mother fearing that her daughter might herself become a victim if she remained in Iraq strongly encouraged Zainab to marry one of her countrymen already in the United States thus having a place to which she could find refuge. Instead Zainab became a victim of this man. She tolerated ill treatment for quite some time before the ultimate insult--marital rape-- at which point she decided to leave her husband. After a divorce and some time had passed the author found someone who was truly kind and supportive of her endeavors. Along with her new husband she founded Women to Women International, the first to benefit from being the many women who had been forced into "rape camps" in Bosnia.

This is truly an inspirational book. I am not surprised to learn that the author has made frequent apperances on the Oprah Winfrey show. Winfrey, as many of us know, herself has done much to empower women to escape abusive situations. I would strongly recommend this book especially to all women who have ever suffered ill treatment, work with victims of abuse or aspire to one day.

Madison and Halle Wilde are sisters in high school on the day the world ends. A stone arch appears in the middle of downtown Austin, Texas and everything changes. Madison wants to make sure that whatever happens, she and her beloved sister are safe. Halle is blonde and clueless, more interested in the latest lip gloss than in world events, but Halle loves Madison more than anyone else and they have always been a team. As the mystery of the magical gates draws them in and they struggle to reach the arch, Madison begins to see something about her sister that bothers her. Halle has been gifted with powers of her own. Halle is the only other person with a dragon on her neck and Halle Wilde could be powerful enough to put an end to all of Madison’s plans if she chooses to. Worse, Madison suspects she will have to break Halle’s heart into a thousand pieces to open the final gate and this betrayal might destroy them both and take the whole world with them.

Devoured it!

I want to recommend this book to every literate being with eyeballs. At first glance at the description you might think it's a Young Adult novel because the girls are in high school but that is absolutely not the case. This is very much a delightfully adult romp through a very different type of apocalypse. Expect angels, demons, dead (?) cats, passive-aggressive ghosts, man-eating plants and God.

Can't wait for the next book!

Lalitha Sahasranama is like Vedas. It describes the Brahman in different forms and the author has made an excellent attempt to interpret each nama with its hidden meaning.

Lalithambika has been beautifully described, her form, her ornaments, her feet, her walking, her eyes, her fore head, her qualities, her nature. Every nama is to be enjoyed.

The Author used simple language to explain meaning of each word, which is an integral part while understanding sacred hidden meaning.

This book also elaborately explains the origin of Lalitha Sahasranama, Panchadasi Mantra, Sodasi Mantra, Purva Bhag, Introduction to Dhyana Verses, Phalasruthi or Utter Bhag and thus should be considered to be a great scripture to possess for learning all about Lalitha Amma and for considerable spiritual advancement.

Self-realization, Kundalini, Meditation are also widely explained in this Sahasranama Treatise.

At the end of this Sahasranama reading, I'm able to visualize her total form and learnt a lot about her.

The most comprehensive book on the nature of creation you will ever read. V Ravi has made a point of truly unraveling this ancient Sanskrit text and presenting the complexity of the language. It'll take me years to grasp fully any of it. If you read one Hindu text and only one Hindu text, this is the one!!!

Excellent but a Bit Limited in Scope

This is a great guide and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in hiking in Oman. The maps are clear (if basic but adequate) and the hikes described very rewarding, ranging in length from 1 hour to 2 days each way.
The only complaint I might possibly have is that it only covers a rather small part of the country - adding some hikes for the Dhofar region down south for example would be great.

To avoid disappointment, be prepared that this is not a book!
It is a boxed set of a 16 pages long pamphlet entitled "Trekking Handbook" which contains general trekking info for the country, a decent country/regional map, and 12 folded individual leaflets/"cards" each describing a particular hike with a route map.
They are all printed on pretty hard, durable paper/carton and do the job fine, but quite why they were not bound into a book format is a bit of a mystery.
