"The Star Wars Deluxe Edition" is a beautifully packaged volume collecting a unique 8 issue mini-series published in 2013-2014 by Dark Horse Comics. Based on the 1974 rough draft screenplay by filmmaker George Lucas that would evolve into the story that became the immortal movie "Star Wars" in 1977, this space adventure tale of "another galaxy, another time" has been grandly reinterpreted by the creative team of writer J.W. Rinzler and artist Mike Mayhew. For fans of the continuing "Star Wars" mythos, those who have enjoyed the exploits of characters like Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo in many incarnations, this book gives the reader the truly entertaining opportunity to experience this well-known story from a new perspective.

As "The Star Wars" begin, a galaxy's star spanning society is entering a transition into tyranny. The Jedi-Bendu, the millennia-long warrior guardians of the former Emperor and now fallen political system, have been hunted down and all but exterminated by their ancient enemies, the Knights of Sith. After a tragic attack from a Sith assasin, a grieving Jedi-Bendu Master Kane Starkiller leaves his homeworld of Utapau with his elder son Annikin, travelling to the planet Aquilae, in hope of having Annikin become the padawan/apprentice of fellow Jedi-Bendu Luke Skywalker. But the father and son arrive on this world at a critical time: Aquilae is under seige by the new Empire, which is using an immense space fortress the size of a small moon to conquer the planet. During the invasion, the King of Aquilae is killed, leaving his daughter, Princess Leia, as heir to the throne and a coveted commodity to be claimed by the invading imperial forces. Master Skywalker assigns the task of finding and protecting the young princess to his new apprentice Annikin, even as he attempts to command the Aquilae military in their defense of the embattled world. As the action-packed story of "The Star Wars" escalates, Annikin, Leia, and Master Skywalker encounter other worlds, space battles, Wookiees, the danger of traversing an asteroid field, a pair of scrabbling droids, and a tall reptillian named Han Solo.

Part of the joy in reading "The Star Wars" is discovering familiar people, places and things realized in different ways. Concepts and characters established in the well-known film saga are given earlier life in the rough draft penned by Mr. Lucas four decades ago. J.W. Rinzler adapts the screenplay into the comic medium well for the most part. There are awkward moments in the narative, for example, in the budding romance between the young hero and heroine, Annikin and Leia. Mr. Lucas' draft also has a darker tone than the movie that came to be called "A New Hope," but overall this is a fast-paced tale of swashbuckling space opera, reminiiscent of its classic inspirations, like Akira Kurosawa's 1958 film, "The Hidden Fortress," and especially the Flash Gordon comic strip by Alex Raymond, which premiered in American newspapers in 1934.

It is the art of "The Star Wars" comic by Mike Mayhew which makes this stellar story soar. In this wonderful homage to the "Star Wars" Saga's earliest days, Mr. Mayhew has created one of the great examples of "Star Wars" sequential art. Paying tribute to the contributions of film storyboard artist Joe Johnston, and specifically the revered production design work Of Ralph McQuarrie, the talented illustrator has produced a work that fans of George Lucas' cherished cinematic creation will truly treasure. For the countless admirers of Mr. McQuarrie's invaluable vision in the look of the Original Trilogy, Mr. Mayhew's artistry will bring a smile to their faces again and again. On a personal note, this veteran "Star Wars" fan found turning the pages of this comic adventure a continual delight, revealing beautiful tips of the hat (or stormtrooper helmet) to more than a few of Mr. McQuarrie's legendary production paintings showcased in the famous "Star Wars Portfolios" of years gone by. But tributes aside, Mr. Mayhew's gifts as a comic storyteller extend beyond just being inspired by other artists. He gives life to "The Star Wars" story and his artist's eye brings a particular sense of wonder to this special tale.

"The Deluxe Edition" of the comic mini-series is collected in a brown tone clothbound box set which contains: the entire 7 issue comic adventure in a hardcover volume; the special 0 issue of the mini-series, which was published as a special behind the scenes companion comic to the mini-series with character and mechanical designs, sketches, alternative pages and more, within its own hardcover volume; and a portfolio of the painted covers to the comic series rendered by Nick Ringe, all housed in individual cardboard and acetate sleeves.

"The Star Wars" was a labor of love for its creators as well as for its publisher, Dark Horse Comics. It also served as a grand finale to its publishing relationship with the Lucasfilm Ltd., Company, which began in 1991 with the 6 issue mini-series, "Dark Empire." For well over 20 years, Dark Horse offered comic readers a variety of memorable "Star Wars" comics, from the "Crimson Empire" trilogy (1997, 1998, 2011-2012) to the ambitious "Star Wars: Legacy" series (2006-2011; 2013-2014).
In 2014 the publishing license for "Star Wars" comics returned to the first publisher of "Star Wars" comics, Marvel Comics. So ended Dark Horse's contribution to the "Expanded Universe." But with the publication of "The Star Wars," Dark Horse Comics bid farewell to the Saga on a high note, creating a comic series that paid homage to a long ago time, brought joy to a new generation of fans and will enthrall "Star Wars" fans for years to come.

The Cover Portfolio does NOT include any variant cover art, very disappointing. There were several variant covers across the series, most notable of those was issue #2 by Ralph McQuarrie. The better value is the hard cover version.

A must for learning how to love your natural hair and grow it!!

I have worn weaves and braids all my life. I was never taught how to properly care for my hair as a young girl. Because of this, and out of frustration of dealing with it natural, I damaged it repeatedly by applying relaxers and color over many many years.
Finally becoming fed up that my hair simply would not grow past a certain length - I started to do some research on African American natural hair care. That's when I came across this book. After reading it I felt like my eyes were finally opened to how to properly take care of my hair. Audrey does an excellent job of including the science of hair, balancing the hair with certain products, knowing how to trim your hair, using the proper combs, and so much more.
I don't care how the media portrays I should wear my hair anymore. I am not interested in weaves or relaxers anymore. I am now proud of my hair and the versatility it brings to. I am just mad I didn't read the book sooner.

Great book to read if you need some education on how to take care of your hair and grow it.

Every black woman should read it

I love this book and tried to tell all of the black women I know about it. It does way more that just recommend products, which its gives an extensive list of. It tells you about the science of OUR hair and how it is structurally different. There is so much misinformation on Youtube, blogs and internet searches about what to use and which method is the best. She gives you a way to figure out what will work best for your hair. If there is too much protein or moisture, why it breaking. Why is important to actually shampoo and deep condition. Routine is our friend. She even goes over hair care for the little ones. They don't need all of those childrens' products and special shampoos. Bought it as a E-book, plan to get it as a hardback so I can keep it around for a while. Something I plan to read again.

I recommend every sister that struggles with their hair get this book!
It has given me so much knowledge about our hair and has helped with me and my daughter's hair so much.
Audrey gives essential information that teaches how our hair works, then offers detailed instructions on how to care for it.
She also has product recommendations and shows you how to shop for your own hair products.
I've read quite a few hair books and none have come close to the information provided in this book not to mention when I was in high school (many yrs ago) I studied cosmetology and still didnt learn as much as I did about "our hair" that i did from this book, mostly because the courses were focused on caucasian hair - every mannequin had caucasian hair, every book referred to caucasian hair with exception of a short lesson on "curly" hair but nothing remotely close to a in depth education of coily kinky african american hair.
Again that was in the 90's, so I'm sure nowadays there are cosmetology schools that emphasize more on all hair types BUT the average sister shouldnt need cosmetology school to be able to understand and maintain her hair.
This book gives you the knowledge and understanding you need to have healthy hair and correct years of damage we've done by simply not knowing.

Wow! My luck is still running hot, another remarkable new series from a new author for me. I most definitely recommend this Must Read Book. It grabbed me from the Prologue Deep in the Underworld there was no way I could stop reading let alone put it down. Lol salad was dinner.
The God Nergal and the Goddess Ereshkigal
were both from the underworld. The Goddess took the thirteen gods and made them invisible. They loved to play games with the 13 gods lives. Being invisible the gods did not panic but planned building a castle for themselves in the Blue Hills forest
only they could see. Each God had his own unique capabilities to bring to the table.
Marduk is the Thunder God, he couldn't believe it, here he was at the beach naked in all his glory, only to look up to see a human looking at him. She can see me, running he loses her only to find her again to lose her again.
Tess Abelard so far has had a very hard life. After her mother died it took a toll on the whole family. Tess and her twin sister began to have dark nightmares. Turning to alcohol turn the sisters into mindless drunks, leaving her brother no choice but to give the twins ultimatums which lead to her sister leaving. Than things went bad to worse and the nightmares began again. Pulling her to another town. Why is this happening to her? Who is this man? Will I be safe? I really loved this book, can't wait for BOOK 2 and I hope you love it too. I was gifted this ARC for an honest and truthful review.

I received a copy of this book for a honest review. I was taken in to this story it started slow but then 30 pages in i couldn"t put it down i complete love the different take on this theme. Gods cursed and enslaved as ghost only to become real for the person to serve until Marduk sees Tess. LJ Vickery spins a spell binding tale with the book Rock Hard and i think many people will enjoy her tales i have already bought book 2 and cant wait for the 3rd in the series to come out.

Marduk, Mesopotamian god of thunder meets Tess and he becomes real as long as he is near her. Marduk had no idea how this has happened and why now after all this time. He is really lost when it happens again while out with another god friend how does he figure out what is happening. But while it is he might as well enjoy Life eating, drinking coffee and oh yes he can Touch

Tess thinks she is seeing thinks when the sexiest man appears nude before her on the beach. She is really lost when he appears again at a baseball game. He is just to much to say no to but on a "date" run another shows up and he becomes corporal for her as well. WOW what is going on for Tess and the crazy life she has found herself in. Mixed with a past that haunts her and her trust of men.

Want a spicy, hot, erotic paranormal romance that will leave you breathless? Rock Hard by LJ Vickery IS that kind of book, exactly! The characters are entertaining and amazing while the story captures a readers attention with all its action, sizzling sex, and the imaginative world.

This book reminded me a bit of one of my other favorite series, A Guardian of The Realms by Setta Jay. Also reminded me a tad of A Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon as well. Rock Hard was a great romance filled with excitement, some danger, and of course some seriously spectacular sex! Tess and Marduk are wonderful together! The chemistry is WICKED good! I freaking LOVED the whole God and Goddess dynamic too. There are so many wonderful things about Rock Hard that I want to say, but I am having a heck of a time saying what I want to the most. To put it simply: this book was perfect! From cover, to blurb, to the characters and plot, everything was well written and fun. I can't wait to dive into book 2!

Rock Hard received an AMAZING FIVE SHOOTING STARS!! LJ Vickery is an author to look out for. A MUST READ PARANORMAL ROMANCE!
