A Wonderful novel!

This is a wonderful novel! It brilliantly encapsulates the dark night and horror of the holocaust as well
as the redemptive and heroic actions of the few that can influence and change the course of events. The
narrative is compelling and the characters are superbly drawn.The book draws you in and is one of those books you can't put down. You want to see how it will end. More important after finishing you are left with a greater understanding of the human condition and that tragic, tumultuous period in history.

Feel good read

I hesitated on this novel, because I am so sensitive to the subject matter. But The Promise handled the horrors of that time with gentle class, and then moved on to new countries and new lives. The characters instantly grabbed me, and their stories kept me riveted until the very end. I rooted for each member of the separated family, and cried with joy at the happy ending. An uplifting, generational saga that satisfies from prologue to epilogue. This would be an excellent candidate for a movie.

This will make a great movie!

This is an astonishing book.
The author's verbal descriptions were so well-crafted; that I felt that I was an actual character participating in each scene as it unfolded. In addition, the author displays a well-researched, intricate knowledge of the turbulent times depicted. Turbulent times when many civilized people were turning into monsters; while a few brave souls risked everything to help. Great-read!!
