Because of what happened six years ago, she wants nothing to do with the father of such a wonderful child, but Tara needs her.

Phoebe Grant is a character that you will love immediately. Her care and concern for a young child who is frequenting the tea room where she works will tug at your heart. Phoebe goes so far as to follow the young child out to make sure she is with an adult. When her nanny fails to pick her up one evening, Phoebe takes it upon herself to see that Tara gets home safely where she decides to give the parents a piece of her mind. She runs into the one man she never expected to see again. Dominic Ashton. She does not have good memories of him. At their last meeting, she was embarrassed, humiliated and thrown out of his house.
Tara wants her for her new nanny. Phoebe wants no part of it, but knows that Tara desperately needs someone to love and care for her. So for Tara's sake alone, she agrees until New Year's Day. Then she must leave.
The story will tell you what happened to Phoebe as well as why Dom acted the way he did. This tale is full of surprises, laughter, love and is one you won't soon forget. You'll be glad you took the time to read it.

where was the love?

I really want a mommy but daddy says she isn't coming back he's doing his best to get me a new one but in the meantime I have to have a nanny to look after me. Love Tara
Phoebe Grant is working as a waitress at a small diner when she notices a 6 year old who comes in a lot by herself. She befriends the young Tara and finds out that her nanny leaves her there while she goes off with her boyfriend. One night the nanny doesn't return and out of concern Phoebe takes the young girl home in a taxi that she can ill afford. She is surprised to find that Tara Vane is the daughter of Dominic Ashton that man who six years ago, when she was 16, had hurt and traumatized her with his name calling and insinuations. Phoebe is not happy that he is the father but she is more upset because Tara had been left on her own at the diner a lot! Tara has really taken to Phoebe and Dominic manages to finagle Phoebe into agreeing to be her nanny for awhile. Phoebe believes he doesn't recognize her from six years ago.

**Spoilers** When Phoebe was 16, Tony, a boy whom showed interest in her managed to drag her to a so called party, get her drunk through trickery, and then he and his friends stripped her of her clothes and left her on Dominic's bed as a birthday present for him. He even added a blonde wig so that she would resemble Dominic's faithless wife. It was later discovered that the boy, Tony, is Dominic's step brother and he and Dominic's wife were discovered in the marital bed one night by Dominic. Tony thought this would be funny to remind Dominic of how his wife liked to greet other men.

I really didn't see how it could be possible that Dominic and Phoebe fell in love. If you were to go back and read some of his comments you could see some double speak going on there, but I still don't see why how these two fell in love. They hardly spend time together. All he said was that he was tempted by her naked body all those years ago (I don't know how old he is either). He says that he wants a mom for Tara but a wife foremost for himself, he claims that he is working on it and one wonders if he is meaning with Phoebe or with the other woman that shows up in his life too.

He confronts Phoebe about six years ago and they have it out and then it seems to go into a heavy petting session to which a phone call from the ex-wife interrupts and suddenly Dominic acts all cold. Serena the ex comes to stay around Christmas and she is not a very nice person. She even slaps Phoebe when she is defending Tara. Instead of Dominic asking the ex-wife, Serena, to leave he asks Phoebe to leave and of course she does and he takes her to stay with some of her friends. Later he claims that he was protecting Phoebe from the violent Serena - I'm thinking he should have tossed Serena out as she was being emotionally abusive to the little girl! Phoebe is heartbroken and believes that Dominic wants to reconcile with his ex. He shows up later at the friend's house and just opens his arms and Phoebe runs into them. Thought she was heartbroken!! I felt like it was more of a marriage of convenience for Tara's sake but he first had to find out if Phoebe and he would be compatible before he claimed he loved her. After all he was seen kissing the other woman and later tells Phoebe that he knows how the other woman is but if he knew how she was then why was he hanging with her so much and why was he kissing her. He didn't come to this conclusion until the other woman seemed to be seeking some sort of revenge on the little girl. Then he decided he was done with her. So it felt more like Phoebe got him by default.

Authoritative, clear, readable, and useful

I am a therapist, and have studied Rowan's topic for a decade. He has done an enormous service for lay and clinical people interested in a core phenomenon that affects us all - personality splitting. His book is a credible, well organized, well researched, relatively unbiased survey of what a wide range of mental health researchers have written about splitting in the last 150 years - including Freud, Jung, Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir, and many others. He concludes that - rather than having a single monolithic personality, most (all ?) of us have many "subpersonalities" that activate or slumber, depending on inner and outer circumstances. This confirms my own clinical and personal experience. The idea helps explain why we can "love" someone" and "hate" them at the same time - and diet in the morning, and binge in the evening.

The last chapter artfully weaves ideas of several major researchers to postulate an idea of human development that includes the path we each travel toward meaningful spirituality and our "transpersonal," or Higher Self. Rowan's synthesis of earlier theories is the most lucid and credible I've read in over 35 years' research.

Rowan is a well read social scientist, psychologist, and an experienced therapist. Anyone seriously interested in understanding theselves - and others - can profit by reading this intriguing book. Another, probably easier to find, is "Internal Family Systems Therapy," by Dr. Richard Schwartz.

Based on 19 years' experience, my own book on Rowan's subject focuses on a practical framework for "meeting" and harmonizing normal personality subselves under the expert guidance of the resident true Self:

Academic subpersonality

Subpersonalities: The People Inside Us
As a management sciences and OR academic, I have been wondering about the ultimate driving forces of decision making in public and private productive organizations. This search led me to study the mind processes. Amongst personality research branches like Jung/MBTI MBTI Manual (A guide to the development and use of the Myers Briggs type indicator) (3rd ed #6111), eneagram Understanding the Enneagram: The Practical Guide to Personality Typesand Big 5 The Big Five Personality Factors, I found this innovative and enlightening book about our inner division. When living in UK last year I was told by John Rowan that there is a new trend to call this subject as "Dialogical Self". Well, I don't agree, because subpersonality reflects the phenomenon in all the extension: it is about our inner autonomous entities, which can take decisions by themselves, without even our knowledge. Despite admiring Herman's book The Dialogical Self in Psychotherapy , I stay with Rowan's subpersonalities. Recently Rita Carter published her Multiplicity Multiplicity: The New Science of Personality, Identity, and the Self, which testifies and spreads the good news. We become one as long as we are aware of our multiplicity. Is there a connection with management sciences? Yes indeed, since we change personalities in order to pretend to keep the apparent coherence. And doing so, we blindly criticize behaviors that correspond to our own conducts. Unconsciously we are afraid of being nothing behind our personalities, what we could only find out if we look at them from inside. What a huge effect over the economic behavior and productive cooperation it could have!
This, in short, was the kind of thought that the book arises in the practical reader.
With plenty of examples of subpersonality in everyday life, different kinds and origins of subpersonalities, Rowan's book is really insightful and extensively referenced.

A clear Introduction

This is a very good introduction to the area of subpersonalities including the major contributors, history of the theory beginning with Freud's id, ego, superego, finding your own subs and learning how to work with them toward intergration, or what Jung called Wholeness.
Once you see how close other theories are to this, you find ourself asking, why didi't anyone teach me this before--it maks so much sence! Synonyms for subpersonalities include: complexes, archytypes,dream figures, imagoes, disempowered selves, shadows, sub-personalities, ego states, mood states and more.

Book missing pages and duplicating others.

My daughter's guitar instructor uses these theory books and they seem to work well. However, we ordered the level 2 book from Amazon a while back. Now that they've worked their way to page 17, we have discovered the book we received is completely defective. It jumps from page 17 to 24. Then pages 24 to 30 are in the book twice. Then it jumps to page 42 ... and this repeats again. Unfortunately, because we didn't look ahead in the book, we didn't discover it until the return window with Amazon has closed. I'll be going elsewhere to find a new one. If you do order this, be sure to browse the pages when you get it!

An instrument guide that isn't tedious

There are some easy, classic tunes in this book that made learning more fun than the average musical instrument method book. It does go more in-depth with chords than the first book that spends the first half on notes. It gives handy tips on common problems.

Unfortunately, it doesn't do as good a job in teaching fundamentals like rhythm and keeping time and it is no substitute for a good, engaged teacher. Overall, it is a good learning tool for those that are self-teaching, but it works best for those with some prior musical knowledge.

EArly Wednesday evening, August 11, 1965, Marquette and Ronald Frye, Two Negro men in their early twenties, were stopped for reckless driving. At first, it seemed that Marquette would submit to arrest quietly, but a crowd developed, MOre police arrived. Marquette was handcuffed and thrust into the squad car. Ronald took his side: his mother argued violently with the police and was arrested-some said with too much force. The crowd became furious and stoned the police as they left. The mod then began stoning cars, buses, overturning cars and beating passengers. Thus began what was later termed the Watts outbreak and now know as the most violent and most costly race riot in American history. During the riot, 35 people were killed, 1,032 injured. More than 600 buildings were damaged by fire. This and so much more is told about this incredible drama that played out in the slums of Los Angeles in 1965. This book has many photos of the historic riot of during and after the event.

I read this book while in High School, and I remember it to this day. It was one of those can't put down, won't put down books.
During the Watts Riot, I remember being in Los Angeles at my aunt's home and the National Guard driving past her home! Brings back memories. This book is now a part of my book collection!

Murphy come across like Joe Friday and his partner

A step by step, day by day account of the LA- Watts Riots of 1965. Written by two experienced white newspaper writers that were on duty in LA, covering the riots for the LA Times. Interestingly, the authors,Cohen, Jerry and William S. Murphy come across like Joe Friday and his partner. They write from a white perspective, so the view of the riots is always from the outside looking in.
This book proves that many of the lessons learned 50 years ago have been forgotten today. Most of the social problems that helped feed those riots are present today in America's inner cities..
